Coaching to Reconnect with Yourself When Busy

"I’m too busy to schedule a coaching session right now."
"I’d like to have a session once I have more time."
I often hear comments like these. To be honest, as a coach, I sometimes feel the same way. But every time I finally jump into having a session, I inevitably find myself thinking, “Why didn’t I do this sooner?”
Why is that?
"No problem can be solved from the same consciousness that created it."
This well-known quote, often attributed to Albert Einstein, holds a key truth.
In our daily lives, we encounter countless situations that occupy our thoughts and weigh us down. We may think, “What should I do?” or “I feel so stuck,” yet often we simply try to push through, relying on our thoughts without pausing to reflect on the mindset that brought us to that situation.
We may try some usual habits to deal with such situations, like talking to family or friends, doing our hobbies, practising meditation or journaling, or spending time in nature. These habits certainly help to some extent. In my case, walking in nature is refreshing, and just 20 minutes of a brisk walk outside can give me a fresh perspective on something that troubled me before.
But do these tools that we engage in alone truly refresh your perspective?
Coaching provides a unique opportunity to "verbalise" your thoughts and receive feedback from your coach, allowing you to reflect deeply. For example, your coach might ask,
“You mentioned in an earlier session that you wanted to pursue XX, but your current actions seem to contradict that. What are your thoughts on this?”
Or,
“In our coaching partnership over the past year, I noticed XX is your value. How does this current work relate to that value?”
Such questions help you explore perspectives that you might not have considered on your own.
From my experience, tools like meditation and journaling, or even a brisk walk outside in nature, are even more effective when combined with coaching.
My clients often share with me:
"Coaching sessions are the only time I get to reflect on myself."
"Without coaching, I wouldn’t have the time only for myself."
For those with busy work, family, and raising young children—or simply leading a busy lifestyle—coaching can become a rare and invaluable moment to reconnect with oneself. I strongly recommend that you set aside just one hour from time to time—at least once every four weeks—for yourself.
Your coach, as a professional in guiding reflection, will help you uncover new perspectives and organise unprocessed thoughts and feelings. This can lead to insights you may not have reached alone.
Returning to Einstein’s quote, shifting your consciousness allows you to gain entirely new perspectives. This empowers you to reconsider and realign your approach to what you’re dealing with. Staying stuck in the same mindset won’t allow you access to fresh ideas.
Especially when you’re busy, why not schedule a coaching session and create meaningful time for yourself?
